Man gets life for killing romantic rival’s brother
WALTERBORO, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a 34-year-old Kershaw man who took a bus to Walterboro, then walked several miles to confront a romantic rival has been sentenced to life in prison for killing the man’s 15-year-old brother.
Prosecutors said Shag Marshall pleaded guilty to murder Thursday in Colleton County.
Investigators say Marshall was so angry about a man who was also involved with his girlfriend that he stole his uncle’s gun, took the bus to Walterboro and walked half a day to his rival’s house.
The man’s 15-year-old and 17-year-old brothers let Marshall in, thinking he was a friend. Authorities say Marshall then shot Calvin Fishburne Jr. in the head and tried to kill his brother, but the gun jammed because the bullets were so old.
Marshall won’t be eligible for parole.
