Man suspected of killing cab driver kills himself

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a man fatally shot a taxi cab driver at a Waffle House in Columbia, fled in the cab and then killed himself.

Authorities say the suspect robbed a cab driver in Camden and drove to the Waffle House.

Richland County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Arielle Riposta says he shot a taxi driver there about 4 p.m. Friday and fled in the Checker Yellow Cab back toward Kershaw County.

She says the victim was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Riposta says Richland County deputies and highway troopers chased the suspect to Camden. She says spikes were thrown in the road, causing the suspect to crash. He then fatally shot himself.

The names of the victims and suspect have not been released.
