SC men take plea deal in deadly home invasion

SUMTER, S.C. (AP) — Two brothers have accepted a plea deal and agreed to testify in a Sumter County home invasion two years ago that turned into a shootout that left one man dead and another paralyzed.

The Item of Sumter reports (http://bit.ly/oE7U3l ) that 26-year-old Calderone Bracey and 24-year-old Carlton Bracey were sentenced Monday to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

Prosecutors say they must testify truthfully against two co-defendants, or their murder charges will be reinstated.

Authorities say 23-year-old Kemper Holiday was killed and 50-year-old Hugh Philips was shot in the back and was paralyzed during the 2009 home invasion.

Prosecutors say a murder trial for 24-year-old Vernon Goodwin and 21-year-old Cameren Kelley should start this week.
