Suspects in NY Shooting Caught in Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Two men wanted in the shooting death of a New York City high school basketball star have been arrested in South Carolina. Deputy U.S. Marshal Rick Long told The New York Times that 21-year-old Robert Cartagena and 21-year-old Tyshawn Brockington were found in a closet in an apartment complex Wednesday. They were being held in Columbia on fugitive charges. Richland County Sheriff’s spokesman Curtis Wilson said the men waived extradition during a hearing Thursday morning and will be taken to New York City. Eighteen-year-old Tayshana Murphy was killed early Sunday. Murphy was a senior at Murry Bergtraum High School for Business Careers and was considered one of the top basketball players in the city. Police arrested 24-year-old Terique Collins on Monday on a weapons charge.
