Vice President to Visit Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden is making a short visit to Charleston to raise money for President Obama’s re-election campaign The Post and Courier of Charleston reported the vice president will be at Charleston Place Hotel late Thursday for a $36,000-a-plate dinner for 10 people. A Democratic National Committee official said state party Chairman Dick Harpootlian is among the 10 people invited. Biden has strong ties to South Carolina. He and his wife Jill vacationed at Kiawah Island two years ago. He is a close friend of former U.S. Sen. Fritz Hollings and gave the eulogy at the 2003 funeral of former U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond.
