Location Puts Okra Strut Festival In Danger

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — The annual Okra Strut gets underway tonight, with the festivities kicking off at 6 p.m. This year is the first time during its 38-year history of the Okra Strut that it has a sponsor. During the next three years, Lexington Medical Center is sponsoring the festival. A Street Dance takes place at 6 p.m. Friday, and the parade takes place at 9 a.m. Saturday. Some roads are closed due to the Okra Strut. Thames Valley Road between St. Andrews Road and Friarsgate Boulevard will close Friday morning at 11 a.m. and so will the entrance of the Shopper’s Walk Shopping Center on St. Andrews Road. Both will reopen at Saturday evening at 6 p.m. If you would like to learn more about the festival, click here to go to the Irmo Okra Strut’s website.
