Sumter cancels celebration

SUMTER, S.C. (AP) — The city of Sumter had planned to join the Air Force and Army from Shaw Air Force Base to hold their annual street festival along the town’s Main Street, but the event was cancelled after bad weather hit the area.
Shaw community relations manager Rob Sexton says Friday evening’s event was open to everyone in the downtown area.
Sexton says the event was designed to allow military men and women to meet members of the local community who show them so much support.
The Air Force and the Third Army were planning to bring fire-fighting equipment, bomb disposal robots, military vehicles and other equipment for families and children to view. Two bands were supposed to entertain, and food and beverages was supposed to be available.
