Coastal Carolina celebrates Banned Book Week
CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Coastal Carolina University is celebrating people’s freedom to read by observing Banned Book Week.
Assistant philosophy professor Preston McKever-Floyd holds a discussion Monday on the ethics of banning books.
On Thursday, Coastal Carolina students take part in the Banned Books Read-Out. That’s an event where they read sections from some of the most commonly banned books from Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” to the “Harry Potter” series by J.K. Rowling.
The event will also include performances of banned music and a video on censorship.
