10 jail inmates to graduate from cooking class

LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Inmates in the Lexington County jail are graduating from a six-week culinary arts training class.
Lexington County Sheriff James Metts says 10 inmates will graduate Wednesday afternoon from the jail’s cooking school. He says the program is meant to provide inmates with skills they can use to seek jobs in the food service industry when they’re released.
Metts says the inmates will graduate in a ceremony at the Lexington County law enforcement complex.
The company that provides meals for inmates, Trinity Services Group Inc., conducts the training class.
Participating inmates met for 30 minutes each day with Eva Barnett, who supervises food service at the jail.
The hands-on training includes instruction in cleaning and sanitation, food safety, preparation of cold and hot food, portion control, food inventory and ordering.
