28th MOJA Festival opening in Charleston
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The curtain is rising on the annual MOJA Arts Festival in Charleston, an 11-day celebration of African-American and Caribbean arts.
It’s the 28th year the festival has been held in the city. Most of the events beginning on Thursday are free and others have ticket prices ranging from $5 to $35. The name of the festival comes from the Swahili word meaning “one.”
The festival includes visual arts, music including everything from classical to rhythm and blues, as well as crafts, ethnic food, storytelling and other events.
The festival also has educational outreach programs for schools and senior citizens.
