Less time for riding horses on Georgetown beaches

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (AP) — Horseback riding is now allowed only four months of the year on the beaches in Georgetown County.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports (http://bit.ly/pHgLbq) that county council decided Wednesday to allow horseback riding only from the first of November through the end of February.

The move eliminates three months in the spring and early fall when horseback riding had been allowed. Some residents had complained about the horses and the county recreation department wanted to ban horses entirely.

One local business says the change will cost it thousands of dollars.

Horseback Riding of Myrtle Beach has had to cancel 25 reservations to ride in October and lay off three workers it had hired to help clean up after horses in the Garden City area.
