South Carolina’s newest federal judge sworn in

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina’s newest federal judge has taken his oath of office.

The Greenville News reports (http://bit.ly/nnAouY ) that 50-year-old Tim Cain was sworn in as a U.S. District Court judge Thursday at the federal courthouse in Anderson.

Cain stood with his wife and son as he took the oath. His parents, who were mill workers and farmers in Oconee County, were in the audience.

Cain told the newspaper that the courtroom is the one place in government where the rich and the poor are fed from the same spoon and his goal is to be as fair as possible.

Cain served as a lawyer and state Family Court judge before being named to the federal bench. He worked as a custodian and mill worker as he went to school.
