Bride dismayed after fire destroys Union shop

UNION, S.C. (AP) — Fire has destroyed a bridal shop in Union County, and with it, the wedding plans of soon-to-be brides.

Union Public Safety officials say Barbara’s Bridal in Union burned down early Wednesday. The building was fully engulfed by flames when firefighters got there about 1:45 a.m. It took several hours for crews to completely put out the fire.

Gwendolyn Bishop says she was supposed to pick up her wedding gown and seven bridesmaid dresses Friday for her wedding on Sunday. She says she searched the entire state to find the perfect gown and blue dresses, bought them all for $1,600 and had them altered at the store.

Fire investigators say the fire was probably an accident.
