Parents Zone in on Redistricting Plan
Dozens of concerned parents came out to the second of three public hearing to discuss a proposed plan to move some students to a new middle and new high school to alleviate traffic and congestion in their facilities. Overall, parents were happy with where the lines fell. Some raising concerns about the difficulty the transition will be for their children who in some case will lose most of their friends to redistricting. School officials say they’re taking parents concerns and suggestions into consideration before they go before the school board a second and final time Oct. 18th. Right now the plan is to split the county in two areas for the high schools and into three for the middle schools. Chief Operations officer, Jeff Salters says he hopes the move will bring the school population to a more manageable 15 hundred students. The next public hearing concerning this issue will be held Monday October 10th in the theatre of the Lexington Middle School beginning at 6 in the evening.
