Dad Killed While Walking Alongside Bike-Riding Son

PICKENS, S.C. (AP) _ A father walking alongside his 12-year-old son as he rode his bike in Pickens County has been struck and killed by an SUV. Authorities said 38-year-old Michael Cummings died a short time after he was struck around 6:15 p.m. Friday on a rural road about six miles north of Pickens. Investigators say his son, who was not wearing a helmet, was knocked off his bicycle and taken to the hospital. A special team of state troopers is investigating the crash, and no charges have been filed.
