Middle School student dies after being hit by car

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — An 11-year-old was killed after he was hit by a car while leaving school. South Carolina Troopers say a sixth grader was hit while crossing a four-lane road near Dent Middle School after school Tuesday and died from his injuries overnight. Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says 11-year-old Devonte Owens died of multiple trauma. Officials say there was no crossing guard at the intersection a few blocks from the school where the accident happened. An investigation is on-going, but no charges have been filed.
