SC man charged with theft over US travel expenses
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a Cross man has been indicted on a charge of stealing government property.
The indictment handed up Tuesday said 50-year-old Andrew Butler took more than $1,000 from the U.S. government by getting cash for travel benefits he was not entitled to receive.
The court papers did not reveal how much money Butler took from the Department of Veteran Affairs or detail his role with the agency.
Prosecutors say Butler faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
It wasn’t clear Tuesday if Butler has an attorney.
