Cops: Mom heard sex assault of daughter over phone

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a small town South Carolina police officer was arrested after he accidentally dialed his cell phone while sexually assaulting a girl, allowing her mother to hear what happened.

Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said 36-year-old Nakia Johnson was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a child after the girl told investigators she had been abused for several years.

But Johnson’s mother, Barbara Johnson, says the woman accusing Johnson has had it out for her son and is making up the allegations.

Nakia Johnson is a police officer in Fairfax, and Chief Marvin Williams says he is talking with town officials to decide what to do about his employment.

Johnson is being held in the Kershaw County jail and is awaiting a bond hearing.
