Moore County student accused of assaulting officer

CAMERON, N.C. (AP) — A high school student in Moore County has been charged with assaulting a school police officer.

The Fayetteville Observer reported (http://bit.ly/pIryXS) the Union Pines student attacked an officer with a knife at the school in Cameron late Tuesday morning.

The student’s name has not been released because of his age.

School spokesman Tim Lussier says the student is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, possessing a weapon on school grounds, and damage to school property.

Forty-three-year-old officer Stephen Clark was not injured when he was struck in the back with an 8-inch knife because he was wearing body armor.

Lussier says he doesn’t know what prompted the attack.
