SLED aiding probe of Georgetown church fire

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (AP) — The State Law Enforcement Division is helping Georgetown fire officials investigate the cause of a fire that destroyed a church over the weekend.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports (http://bit.ly/tNKQk7) it could take several weeks before the cause of the fire at the Greater St. Stephen A.M.E. Church is determined. The fire broke out early Sunday and destroyed the 114-year-old structure.

Fire Chief Joseph Tanner says there is no indication the blaze was set. But he said SLED is brought in to help in an investigation when a large structure like a church burns.
