Sumter School officials meet Third Army leaders

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. (AP) — Leaders of the Third Army and the U.S. Army Central Command are hosting school officials from Sumter, who will get a tour of Shaw Air Force Base. .

Army officials said Lt. Gen. Vincent Brooks, who took over command of the Third Army and the U.S. Army Central in June, is hosting the event.

Sumter school district officials as well as members of the school board and cabinet were scheduled to get a tour of the new Army headquarters at Shaw .

The Third Army closed its headquarters at Fort McPherson in Atlanta and moved to Shaw over the past year. It puts the commands for land forces in the Middle East alongside Ninth Air Force, which is responsible for air forces in the same region.
