COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Nephron Pharmaceuticals Corporation and Gov. Nikki Haley announced Friday the company’s plan to build a new manufacturing plant in Lexington County, which will generate more than 700 new positions. The Florida-based company is run by two South Carolina natives, Bill and Lou Kennedy, who say they are glad to be back home to offer economic growth to the Midlands. Nephron, which manufactures respiratory medications like Albuterol, will build a plant on 60 acres of land in Lexington County near Cayce. It will be located in the Saxe Gotha Industrial Park near online retailer Amazon.com’s new facility. The state will put $4.5 million into site preparation and infrastructure for the facility. It is expected to open for business in two to three years.
