Remains under Spartanburg couch were a woman
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Spartanburg County authorities say the remains found in some woods under a couch earlier this week were those of a woman.
Sheriff Chuck Wright said Thursday the death of the woman found behind a home in the Startex neighborhood is being treated as a homicide.
Teens looking for scrap metal found the remains Wednesday after they turned over a couch and found a tarp and skeletal remains.
Authorities said it appears the remains had been at the location for years.
The sheriff’s office says it has no reports of missing people in the last few years from the Startex area.
Coroner Rusty Clevenger says he’s still trying to identify the remains.
