Woman charged in 4 SC deaths gave away thousands

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Court documents indicate a South Carolina woman accused of killing four family members was under mental stress two years ago and hid tens of thousands of dollars in a closet, giving away cash to almost anyone.

Susan Diane Hendricks of Liberty is charged in the Oct. 18 shooting deaths of her two sons, her ex-husband and her stepmother to collect life insurance.

In a story first reported by GeenvilleOnline.com, bankruptcy documents from 2008 show the 48-year-old woman describing herself as bipolar. Hendricks said she gave away money from the life insurance from the death of her father because she wanted people to love her.

In one of several depositions she said she kept $100,000 in cash in her bathroom closet because she didn’t really care about the money.
