SRS manager donates ice cream to family center

WARRENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — The contractor that manages the Savannah River Site is making some sweet dreams come true.

Savannah River Nuclear Solutions on Tuesday is presenting a $5,000 donation and some ice cream to the Family Y organization in Warrenville.

The Family Y provides physical fitness programs and social opportunities for all ages, swim lessons and senior activities. The Family Y also operates before- and after-school programs at 27 elementary schools serving over 1,000 children in Georgia and South Carolina.

SRNS manages the U.S. Department of Energy’s SRS complex, which once produced plutonium and tritium for atomic bombs. Work there is now focused on research and environmental cleanup.
