Greenville deputy followed procedures in crash
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — The Greenville County sheriff’s office says a deputy was following proper procedures when he pursued a suspicious vehicle that wrecked, killing the driver.
A deputy was pursuing a vehicle thought to contain a man who had been the object of a massive manhunt that prompted the lockdown of 10 schools on Oct. 28.
Investigators said Patrick Lowrance had fired at two officers earlier.
The deputy pursued a vehicle that refused to stop until it was found crashed into some trees. Thirty-four-year-old Derrek Smith died at the scene.
Lowrance was found later Friday at a home in Greenville.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is also investigating the pursuit.
