Report: Lowcountry counties should focus on health
BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) — A new report suggests that Beaufort and Jasper counties should focus on developing health care expertise and not so much on trying to attract aerospace suppliers.
The Beaufort Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/u7Jxwh ) the study by consultants from Greenville and Texas is being reviewed by the Lowcountry Economic Alliance.
One of the areas the alliance has been focused on is drawing aerospace providers for the new Boeing assembly plant in North Charleston.
The consultants analyzed which industries the alliance should target to get the best return on their dollars.
Their report suggests targeting health care and biomedical firms. It said the region could develop into what’s called destination health care, providing specific services to attract patients from outside the area.
