North Charleston’s Summey seeks fifth full term
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The mayor of South Carolina’s third-largest city is seeking re-election.
Keith Summey on Tuesday seeks a fifth full term as mayor of North Charleston. He’s been mayor since 1994 and during the past decade, the city has grown to a population of nearly 100,000 people.
North Charleston voters go to the polls on the same day as Charleston voters, the first time that has happened. North Charleston moved its elections to the fall this year, holding them at the same time as other Charleston-area municipalities in an effort to boost the turnout.
There are contested council races Tuesday in seven other Charleston-area communities.
