Summey easily wins re-election in North Charleston
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey has won re-election in a landslide as mayor of South Carolina’s third-largest city.
Summey won a sixth term Tuesday, capturing 78 percent of the vote in defeating challenger Chris Collins, the vice chairman of the Charleston County School Board.
Summey has been mayor since 1994. During the past decade, the city has grown to a population of nearly 100,000 people.
Summey says one thing he wants to do in his new term is get long-planned casino boats sailing from the city’s Cooper River waterfront.
