Motorcyclist hits 131 mph in Kershaw County chase

CAMDEN, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a Greenville man is in jail after leading Kershaw County sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase.

Sheriff Jim Matthews said 22-year-old Joshua Damien Boyter was being held in the Kershaw County jail Monday for failing to stop for officers.

Matthews says a deputy clocked Boyter at 89 mph on Interstate 20 Friday night. The deputy radioed ahead to another officer, who clocked the motorcyclist at 131 mph.

Boyter turned off his taillights but was arrested when he tried to avoid an accident that had backed up traffic.

It wasn’t known if Boyter had an attorney. Authorities say he has previous arrests for burglary, grand larceny and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Matthews said Boyter said he had run from officers before but had not been caught.
