No 2,400 percent raise for Charleston school board
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Members of the Charleston County school board won’t be getting a 2,400 percent pay raise.
The school board voted 5-3 on Monday not to raise its pay from $600 per year to $15,000 annually.
Board member Mary Ann Taylor resigned before the meeting, saying she thought it was disgusting that the board would even consider raising its own pay rather than focus on more important issues.
Board member Chris Collins said the raise would not make members rich, but would allow members to recover some of the cost of serving.
Board member Elizabeth Moffly pointed out the board had not had a raise in 30 years.
Both Collins and Moffly voted against the motion to reject the raise.
