COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Steve Spurrier says his team has plenty of more goals to reach besides winning the SEC East division title this year. Marcus Lattimore says the Gamecock backfield is going to be scary next year. At Tuesday’s weekly press conference the Ball Coach took the usual preview questions looking ahead to this Saturday’s game against The Citadel. Lattimore spoke publicly for the first time since his season-ending injury at Mississippi St. on October 15th. Spurrier said he has told his team about the last time The Citadel played USC–a 38-35 Bulldog upset at Williams-Brice Stadium in 1990. “It is a very big deal in an in-state school beats the state university,” Spurrier said. Lattimore acknowledged his season-ending knee injury has been a challenge. He apprecitates the support he’s received from family, teammates, coaches and fans, including about 1,000 letters. The sensational sophomore said his toughest time with the injury came after the first game he had to sit out. Lattimore said he got down after the USC-Tennessee game but shook it off. Lattimore is off crutches and should have surgery on his knee later this week. He says he is excited about his rehab and getting the knee 100% ready to play next season.
