Charge Dropped Against Man in 2005 Anderson Death

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) _ Prosecutors have dropped a murder charge against a 24-year-old man, saying Anderson County deputies made mistakes that make it legally and ethically impossible to take the case to trial. Raymond Groves was charged last summer in the 2005 killing of 44-year-old James “Pete” Wells, who was shot in the parking lot of a Chinese restaurant as he took food to his car. Solicitor Chrissy Adams told the Anderson Independent-Mail (http://bit.ly/vMnUWV ) that a statement from a jail inmate connecting Groves to the crime turned out to be false and DNA evidence used to charge the suspect was also linked to at least two other people. Sheriff John Skipper says his deputies consulted with prosecutors before arresting Groves and didn’t hear any of these concerns.
