SC Gov Haley speaking at Claflin University

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is delivering the keynote speech at Claflin University’s 142nd Founders’ Day Convocation.

Haley is set to give the speech at 4 p.m. Sunday. The convocation wraps up homecoming week at the private college in Orangeburg.

The annual event celebrates the school’s founding in 1869 by Methodist missionaries.

The historically black university is still affiliated with the United Methodist Church. It was named after former Massachusetts Gov. William Claflin and his father, Boston philanthropist Lee Claflin, who helped buy the campus.
