SC federal prosecutors seize $12M in 12 months

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Federal prosecutors have seized nearly $12 million in civil and criminal cases in 12 months.

U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles said the money was collected in a wide range of cases, from fraud to money laundering to drug sales.

Nettles says his attorneys collected $9.2 million in civil actions and $2.7 million in criminal actions. Nettles says his office also collected $1.8 million in criminal and civil forfeitures in the past fiscal year.

Nationwide, federal prosecutors collected $6.5 billion through civil and criminal actions.
