Another election coming in Atlantic Beach

ATLANTIC BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Some Atlantic Beach residents say they are worried about plans for a new election in the Horry County town.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported ( http://bit.ly/ulU64f ) about 30 people gathered at First Missionary Baptist Church in Atlantic Beach on Monday evening to talk about the latest election problems.

Earlier this month, the town’s election commission threw out the results of the Nov. 1 voting and ordered a new election in six months.

That decision leaves in place the current leadership.

Jake Evans had won the mayor’s post on Nov. 1, defeating Windy Price and incumbent Retha Pierce.

Several residents complained Monday that the new election should be held before the new year, rather than waiting six months. They also want Horry County to supervise the new election.
