Spurrier Glad Rivalry Has National Implications

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Steve Spurrier says South Carolina isn’t going to do anything drastically different to beat its arch-rival Clemson this week. The Ball Coach has USC on the cusp of just the second 10-win season in school history. He says USC will continue to be the team it has been when the 12th-ranked Gamecocks host the #17 Tigers at 7:45 p.m. Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium. Several times during his weekly press conference Tuesday, Spurrier brought up that just last week sportswriters wrote that Clemson had a chance to win the national championship this year. The Ball Coach says, now that his team is out of contention for the SEC championship, the state championship against Clemson is the most important game of the season. USC is coming off its first back-to-back wins against Clemson since the Gamecocks beat the Tigers three straight from 1968-1970. This is just the fourth time the two teams will meet that both are nationally ranked.
