Cops: Teen hid as man took items from SC home

LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Lexington County deputies have arrested a man they say broke into a home and took items while a 17-year-old girl hid inside.

Deputies said Tuesday 56-year-old Richard O’Neil Hatchell of Leesville faces several charges, including first-degree burglary and failure to stop for a blue light.

Officers say the teen called them Monday afternoon to report that someone had broken into her parents’ home. The girl told deputies she hid in a laundry room while Hatchell was inside.

Officers later arrested Hatchell. Inside his van they found items taken from the home, including a bottle of liquor and a container of perfume inside a pillow case from the girl’s bed.

Hatchell was being held Tuesday at the Lexington County jail. It wasn’t known if he had an attorney.
