Sheriff: SC cop impersonation cases connected
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Spartanburg County authorities say they believe there’s a connection between several cases of motorists being stopped by someone pretending to be a law enforcement officer.
Sheriff Chuck Wright told WYFF-TV (http://bit.ly/rRx6Yc) he thinks the man impersonating an officer and stopping drivers wants to be a member of law enforcement and carries a scanner.
Last week, Wright’s deputies investigated a woman’s complaint that she was sexually assaulted by a man who had a blue light in his sports utility vehicle and pulled her over. Authorities found that woman barely conscious in a ditch.
There have been several other reports in the past week of people in Greenville and Spartanburg counties being pulled over by someone with flashing lights on their vehicle, but none of those people have reported assaults.
