Man Facing Attempted Murder Charge in Cop Shooting

LANCASTER, S.C. (AP) – Authorities say a man suspected of shooting a Lancaster County deputy in the stomach as he ate dinner at a restaurant has been charged with attempted murder. Sheriff Barry Faile said Tuesday 19-year-old Rodrick Caskey also faces armed robbery and several weapons charges. Faile says Brandon Rollins was on break with two fellow drug officers Nov. 17 when Caskey came inside the Shrimp Boat restaurant with a gun and demanded money. Faile says the officers tried to stop the robbery, and Rollins was shot in the stomach. The 11-year veteran is still hospitalized in stable condition. Caskey was later arrested. A bullet grazed his face and he was taken to the hospital for treatment before being arrested. It wasn’t clear if Caskey had an attorney. His bond has been denied.
