SC officials still searching for missing NC native

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (AP) — Eight years after a man disappeared from a South Carolina assisted living facility on Thanksgiving Day in 2003, the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office hasn’t given up hope of finding him.

Garrett “Gary” Hughes vanished from the Manor House Independent Living Facility eight years ago. Police think the native of Fayetteville, N.C. may have tried to return to that city. He was suffering from short-term memory loss, seizures and other health problems.

Earlier this month, the sheriff’s office conducted another search for Hughes along with the Wilmington, N.C.-based CUE Center for Missing Persons. The search was concentrated in a wooded area near the Kensington community, where Hughes was last seen.

Sheriff A. Lane Cribb says anyone with information about Hughes can contact the sheriff’s office.
