SC police searching for escaped jail inmate

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Police are looking for a man who walked out of a jail in Conway after posing as a different inmate who had posted bond.

Horry County officials say that 37-year-old Charles Dwight Ransom has been missing since Monday, when he was mistakenly released from the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

Authorities say Ransom got out by switching identification armbands with Nathaniel Martinez. Martinez, who was arrested along with Ransom earlier this month, had posted bond.

Both men were arrested on drug charges. Martinez has now been charged with aiding an escapee.

The Horry County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s help in finding Ransom. But police say he should be considered dangerous and members of the public should not approach the man.
