Columbia police investigating death at gas station

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Columbia police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a car parked at a gas station.

Police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons says officers found the body late Friday night after receiving a 911 call about a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a Pitt Stop convenience store.

Officers arriving at the scene found a man’s dead body inside the vehicle.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office is expected to perform an autopsy on the body Saturday. Investigators hope the procedure will help determine the cause of death.

Police are still investigating the incident.
