Shipping Rates Increase Before Holidays
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — With 16.5 billion cards, letters and packages to be delivered between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, the U.S. Postal Service has shipping tips to help make sure gits are delivered promptly and safely during the holiday season. Shipping rates increase, just in time for the holidays. UPS imposed a 6% rate hike on ground shipping, FedEx, almost the same percentage on Express service. The United States Postal Service won’t up its rates until January 22, which is why they urge you to ship those gifts–now. USPS recommends the following mail-by dates to ensure gifts arrive on time, especially ones going to Afghanistan and other overseas destinations: Dec. 3 – Military mail to Afghanistan Dec. 10 – Military mail overseas Dec. 15 – Parcel Post Dec. 20 – First-Class Dec. 22 – Express Mail USPS spokesperson, Harry Spratlin, says there are three key ways to save lots of time and money. “Mail on time.
