National conference in SC cites health disparities

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A national conference scheduled for Charleston is focusing on reducing disparities in the nation’s health care.

The conference begins Thursday and continues through Saturday. It features researchers and others from across the country discussing how such things as poverty, low educational levels and other causes prevent people from getting access to health care. They are also discussing how access can be improved.

Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius (suh-BEE’-lee-uhs) speaks Thursday at the conference. Cong. Jim Clyburn addresses the conference on Friday.

The Congressional Black Caucus is one of a number of sponsors of the event.
