Journalist, author Tom Brokaw speaks to USC grads

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Veteran journalist and author Tom Brokaw is scheduled to speak at the winter commencement at the University of South Carolina.

University spokeswoman Megan Sexton says the 71-year-old former NBC News anchor is to receive an honorary doctorate of human letters at the Dec. 12 event.

Brokaw is a former White House correspondent, host for “Today” and NBC Nightly News anchor for more than 20 years.

The ceremony will honor those receiving associate, baccalaureate, master’s, professional and doctoral degrees from all eight of the state university’s campuses. University officials expect to award more than 2,600 degrees.
