Spartanburg man gets life in girlfriend’s killing

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — A Spartanburg County man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his girlfriend and leaving her body in a shallow grave.

A jury found 25-year-old Robert Lee Jr. guilty of murder Thursday after a four-day trial. He was immediately sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Investigators say Lee stabbed his girlfriend during a fight. Lee’s attorney says his client stabbed 21-year-old Rebecca “Becky” Rosa in self-defense after she swung a knife at him.

But prosecutors say the evidence shows Rosa was stabbed three times and someone tried to clean up the apartment before police arrived.

Rosa’s brothers found her body in the woods after reporting her missing.
