1 Horry County jail employee fired after escape
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say one employee of Horry County’s jail has been fired and another will be disciplined next week following an internal investigation of an inmate’s escape last month.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports Saturday (http://bit.ly/uA7kGi ) that inmate Charles Ransom walked out of the county jail about 5 p.m. Nov. 21.
Horry County spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier says Ransom told staff he was another inmate named Nathaniel Martinez.
Martinez’ bond had been posted that afternoon, and he gave his armband identification to Ransom.
Officials say the two were arrested together Nov. 17 on cocaine trafficking charges. Both now face additional charges in the escape.
The Horry County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help in locating the 37-year-old Ransom.
