3-year-old boy killed after Erwin Christmas parade

ERWIN, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say a 3-year-old boy has been struck and killed by a car after watching the Christmas parade in the Harnett County town of Erwin with his family.

Police Chief Warren Morrisette said Cullen Parker was walking back to the car after the parade around 8:30 p.m. Monday with his family when a 21-year-old woman backing out of a parking spot hit him. The child died a short time later at the hospital.

Investigators say the driver waited as several people in the family walked past her car before backing out, but never saw the boy.

Morrisette says officers are still investigating and no charges have been filed.
