Mother’s body found near car, baby strapped inside

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say they have arrested a teen and charged him in the death of a 42-year-old woman whose body was found near a car in Anderson with her 7-month-old son still strapped in his car seat.

Investigators said Wednesday that 19-year-old Charlie Wood of Pelion faces one count of murder. It’s not clear whether Wood has an attorney.

Authorities say Cynthia Charping died from a blow to the head before she was found near an abandoned house around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. Her son was unharmed and placed in the care of the South Carolina Department of Social Services.

Anderson County deputies say the victim and suspect knew each other, but they did not release a motive for the killing.
